Often times, shops have a package price for an oil change, but the package price is only valid for up to 5 quarts of oil. Any oil beyond 5 quarts is an additional charge. In Tekmetric, you can set this up with our smart canned job feature. To get started, let’s navigate to the left menu, and select Canned Jobs.
Set up your LOF Canned Job to Charge for Extra Oil
If you already have a smart canned job created for your engine oil & filter (LOF) service, then you can navigate into the existing canned job and select the lock icon, or the 'Charge for additional oil' pill.
From here, you can set a limit to the amount of oil that is included in the package price.
In the example below, we've set our package price to $49.99, for up to 5 quarts of oil. This means, if a vehicle takes 6 quarts of oil, then we will charge the customer $49.99 + the retail price of that one quart of oil.

When charging for additional oil, we allow users to hide the package price discount lines to customers. Below is a quick video highlighting the differences when this is enabled vs. disabled.
Calculation Method
Once you are done setting up your max amount of oil to include in the package price, select your Calculation Method:

Equal-weighted - we discount the labor and parts evenly to get to the package priced amount.

Labor first - we discount labor first, then parts if needed, to get to the packaged priced amount.

Part first - we discount parts first, then labor if needed, to get to the packaged priced amount.
Once you've selected the method, click Save.
If you do not have a smart canned job created already, then please select 'New Canned Job,' then select 'Smart Canned Job Wizard.'
When you are setting up the package price, you will be able to set the max amount of quarts to be included in the package price.
Example When Added to RO
Looking at the example below, you'll notice this 2015 Lexus RX350 Base vehicle calls for 6.5 quarts of oil.
The original package price was set to $49.99 for up to 5 quarts of oil.
CALCULATION:
- $49.99 (up to 5 qts of oil), plus the 1.5 additional quarts times the $10.05 retail price
- $49.99 + (1.5 x $10.05) = $65.065 = $65.07 subtotal (see screenshot)
I sell oil in Liters, not Quarts
If you sell your oil quantity in liters, rather than quarts, you can adjust what quantity we pull based on the metric. Select the gear icon next to the Fluid section on the grey RO sidebar.
