In Tekmetric, there are numerous ways to build an estimate for your customer. One way to quote is using our smart jobs feature. This article reviews:
What is it?
Smart Job - a job that will automatically populates labor and parts based on the vehicle information in the estimate. The service writer doesn't need to search the labor guide or punch out to shop for parts. We will pull all this information onto the job once it's added to the estimate.
Why is it important?
Smart jobs are designed to help improve a service writer's efficiency when building an estimate. Improving estimate building efficiency in turn will:
Increase approval rates: A fast estimate can help secure the customer's business before they seek quotes elsewhere. If a customer gets a quick and reasonable estimate, they will most likely commit to the service.
Improve shop workflow: The quicker an estimate can be built and approved, the quicker technicians can start work. This leads to a smoother, more efficient workflow within the shop, with more vehicles being serviced in a given time.
Customer satisfaction & retention: Like most people, customers value their time, and providing a fast estimate demonstrates respect for that. If they wait too long, they may become frustrated or go to a competitor.
How does it work?
In Tekmetric, you can just use our standard smart jobs that we've created in the estimate, or use your own smart canned jobs if you'd like to customize them a bit.
To see the list of smart jobs available for a vehicle, you can click "View All" on the top right of the estimate, or begin searching on the top left of the estimate using the search bar labeled "Search and add canned and smart jobs."
You'll know if a job is "smart" because of the blue lightning bolt.
Please note: it is critical that we have the proper vehicle information. We recommend using the VIN or license plate to decode the vehicle. If Smart Canned Jobs are not visible on a Custom Vehicle RO, ensure the vehicle's VIN has been decoded. Decoding the VIN allows the system to match and display the relevant Smart Jobs.
Once you add a smart job to the estimate, we will automatically pull the correct labor time for the vehicle, as well as the correct parts and recommended quantity:
Once you select the part, it will be automatically quoted from your vendor. For more information on how to shop for parts on a smart job, please visit our article regarding part quoting.
Troubleshooting
Job Category Not Retained
If a Smart Canned Job does not retain its Job Category when added to a ticket, it may be due to the method used to add the job. To resolve this:
- Use the mini white search bar in the Repair Order (RO) to add the canned job. This method ensures the assigned Job Category is retained.
- If the issue persists, refresh the application and re-add the job using the white search bar.
Incorrect Part Classification
Sometimes, a Smart Canned Job may pull the wrong part classification (e.g., Air Filter Kit instead of Air Filter). To fix this:
- Update the canned job to target the correct part classification that matches your inventory.
- You can either:
- Edit the canned job at the MSO level and re-publish it to the shops.
- Create a shop-level canned job with the correct placeholder and Smart Part classification. This ensures the Smart Job suggests the appropriate stocked parts.
