Overview
Stripe terminals (S700 and WisePOS) are now enabled with digital signature capture for both work authorizations and payments. This guide explains how the feature works and how to get started.
Key Features
- Automatically available for all shops using Stripe S700 and WisePOS terminals
- Captures signatures for both work authorizations and payments
- Stores signatures digitally for future reference
- Helps protect against chargebacks
How It Works
For Estimates:
- Open the repair order and click ‘Authorize.'
- Click on the job(s) the customer has approved or declined.
- Leave the auth method set as ‘Digital Signature’ and click ‘Sign Here.’
- Click the ‘Capture on Terminal’ dropdown and choose the correct terminal you want the customer to sign on.
- The signature capture will load on the terminal.
- The customer signs on the terminal and clicks ‘Submit.’ (Note: Customer can skip signature if necessary)
-
The signature will appear on your screen and click ‘Insert.’
-
The signature will now be on the estimate and you can click ‘Authorize.’
-
From the estimate, click the print icon and select ‘Print Estimate.’
-
You’ll now see the signature on the estimate that can be printed as needed.
IMPORTANT: Signatures do not carry over to any new authorizations on an RO. From a legal standpoint, we cannot carry over signatures to estimates that have been modified since the date/time of the customer's signature. Our recommendation is to always capture a signature whenever an estimate is being presented.

For Payments:
- Navigate to the Payment tab and click ‘Credit or Debit.’
- Adjust the payment details as needed and then click ‘Take Payment.’
- The payment request will load onto the terminal.
- The customer will Insert, Tap or Swipe their card.
-
Once the payment is approved, the customer will then see a prompt to sign for the payment and click ‘Submit.’ (Note: Customer can skip signature if necessary)
-
You will see the payment reflected on your screen.
- You can then click the print icon and click ‘Print Estimate.'
-
You’ll see the original signature for the work authorization followed by the completed transaction details with signature for the payment. You can print this final invoice for your records.
IMPORTANT: Signatures do not carry over to any new payments associated with an RO. From a legal standpoint, a new signature must be captured for every transaction separately.

Troubleshooting Common Issues
What if the signature pad isn't responsive?
- Ensure the terminal's screen is clean
- Check that the terminal has the latest firmware
- Try restarting the terminal
What if the signature isn't saving?
- Verify internet connectivity
- Ensure the terminal is properly paired
- Check that the transaction hasn't timed out
Best Practices
- Keep the terminal screen clean for better signature capture
- Maintain stable internet connection for reliable signature storage
- You may save digital and/or physical copies of signed documents for record-keeping
FAQs
Is the signature capture smart in what it accepts (e.g., if the “signature” is just a dot or a line)?
- No it is not. If there is a question as to the legitimacy of a customer’s signature, it would be advised you print a hard copy for the customer to sign as additional evidence.
Is this only applicable to card present payments?
- Yes, this body of work was specifically to enable signature capture for card present payments (and in-person work authorizations).
Is this also applicable to counter sales?
- Yes! You can also capture signatures for counter sale card payments.
