Taking the time to set up your discounts will reduce the time it takes for your service writers to build repair orders, give your customers a professional and consistent experience, and help standardize data in your reports.
When you created your shop in Tekmetric, we preloaded the most common discounts into your settings, but of course, you’ll need to review and adjust these examples to better fit your state/local regulations. Tekmetric allows you to preset an unlimited amount of discounts; however, we recommend to set only about 5-10 so your team doesn’t get overwhelmed with too many options.
Once you setup your discounts, be sure to train your employees to only use the pre-configured options, rather than creating their own. This will allow consistency in your reports. Below are some pro tips when it comes to setting up your discounts:
Note: As an owner or manager, you can use our Discount Detail report on a set cadence to review which discounts were used by your team during the period. This will help you identify which team members might need additional coaching.
Within Shop Settings, you can set up your standard shop discounts and select how they should be applied to repair orders and jobs. Please follow the instructions below on how to setup discounts in your shop.
Discount Setup
- Click the Shop Settings section on the bottom of the left menu bar.
- Click the 2nd tab, RO Settings.
- RO Settings table - This table is where you setup most information regarding your repair order and estimates. It is where you set up your labor rates, shop fees, discounts, taxes, job categories, other payments, and advanced settings.
- Click Discounts to set up the standard shop discounts. Discounts created here will be available in a drop-down list to service writers in the Estimate when building out repair orders.
Note: If the discount is calculated on sublets, then you will only be able to apply that discount to sublet jobs.

Add a New Discount
-
Click the Add Discount button to add a new discount. You will fill in the following information:
- Discount field - Here, you can enter the name of the discount. Some examples are: Family, AAA, Warranty.
- Method field - Select whether this discount will be applied as a percentage or fixed dollar amount.
-
Calculate on field - Depending on the method selected, different options are available for this section.
- If Fixed method is selected, you can choose if this discount will apply to sublets, labor, or parts.
- If Percentage method is selected, you can choose if this discount will be applied to labor, parts, sublets, fees, or any combination of the four.
- Amount field - Depending on the method used, you will set the percentage or dollar amount for the discount.
-
Cap field - You can set the maximum limit for this discount only if your discount is a percentage, not a fixed dollar amount.
- Click the blue Save Discounts button when you have finished making edits.
Deleting Discounts
To delete a discount, click the X icon to the right of the discount, then click Save Discounts.

Note: If you make changes to a canned discount in settings, results do not update any active jobs on your job board. This is to help prevent price changes on estimates that might have already been presented or approved.
