The Tekmetric labor guide is full of recommended labor times and parts for certain services and is used as a reference tool for service writers when adding labor times and parts to an estimate. Please note, this is just a guide, and labor times will differ based on region and technician experience. For example, a shop located in the Midwest region of the US will probably require more time to loosen and extract rusted or frozen bolts, than a shop in Texas who doesn’t get snow. In general, we recommend shops use our guide for reference, but to always consult with the technician if they are unsure of the amount of hours to bill the customer for labor.
Tekmetric offers our own in-house labor guide that offers users the following functionality:
Note: it is very important to make sure you have decoded your vehicle, including the submodel and engine information to ensure the correct labor times for the specific vehicle you are working on.
VIN Decoding
VIN decoding is available to better find information about vehicles, and find parts and labor associated with the vehicle the shop is working on. The Labor Guide VIN decoding includes the following information to provide the best accuracy possible:
- Engine + Engine Designation
- Body Type
- Drive Train
- Transmission + TransMrfCode
The more the vehicle specs are decoded, the more accurate the smart jobs will be.
Where Can I Find the New Labor Guide?
The Tekmetric Labor Guide is accessible in three different locations of Tekmetric including within the vehicle issues table on the estimate tab, by clicking the build estimate button on the vehicle issues table, and within each job that you add to a repair order.

Labor Guide's Additional Labor Times
The Tekmetric Labor Guide offers additional labor times that are applicable to jobs that shops perform such as brakes. These additional times are indicated by a green plus sign next to the labor hours.
Tekmetric Maintenance Schedule
The Tekmetric Maintenance Schedule allows shops to recommend work for customers when their vehicles reach different mileage marks. You can easily create jobs from the maintenance schedule by adding the labor and parts to the job, and clicking Create Job.
